VOCAL INSTRUCTION
Nothing opens more opportunities than a dancer with vocal training. Less than 10 percent of professional dancers sing. Singing makes you so much more valuable to a Producer.
You don’t have to be Kelly Clarkson.
We train our dancers on techniques and fundamentals of voice. Correct breathing, developing the muscles needed, vocal exercises to perform on a daily basis.
You will have a private voice lesson every week and a 2 1/2 hour class on ensemble voice, where you will learn 3 part harmonies to new and established Broadway Productions.
A dancer will leave TAPS with a music book. This book with be put together like a professional singers book. With a song ready to go for any musical genre thats auditioning.
Your music will be marked and edited as an audition piece. You will be trained to perform the whole song or just the 16 bar audition.
We have a dropbox of hundreds of song choices in a variety of genres.

We have vocal auditions every week as a class where you will be called into the room, address the casting table, learn to speak to accompaniment at the piano as a professional. Direct them on tempo, your music key, hear your intro and more.
You will then go centerstage and sing for your teachers. Yes, you will be nervous at first, we all were but soon your love of singing will match your love of dancing.
Theater Arts Preparatory School is very happy to have the incomparable Steve Judkins as it’s head vocal instructor. Besides skill and talent, Steve brings his passion for singing, for music and for performing to each and every student. Even the “dancers who don’t sing” find themselves comfortable almost immediately with Steve. He has an amazing ability to make good singers out of bad ones, and great singers out of good ones. Either way, it’s a win-win for the students and for TAPS.
Nothing worse than a dancer getting down to the very last callback at an audition, and not getting the job because of their vocal talent (or lack thereof). Steve is meticulous through private one on one coaching, as well as ensemble work in preparing even the most hesitant to sing dancers for vocal auditions, as well as their careers.
